Owner - Operator - Shipwright • 1985 to Present
Performed all facets of Marine Carpentry from modification and design to repairs, installation, and building of custom parts.Methods: woodworking jigs, fixtures, pattern making, lofting, ultra-light construction methods, fiberglass molds and fabrication.

Custom dinette set; 12-foot table with 2 armchairs and 8 side chairs in Thomas Moser style. All cherrywood, curved backs with laminated apron. Designed prototype and production jigs and fixtures and then built finished set. Miscellaneous home restoration, custom cabinets, trim, design and building.

LOS ANGELES MARITIME INSTITUTE, Twin Brigantine Project
Master Carpenter - Lead Shipwright • 2003
Built 90-foot twin Brigantine vessels for TopSail Youth Project, including curved hatches, tables, raised panels, doors, stairs, cap rails,and finish woodworking.
FORTY LOVE, West Coast Custom Yachts
Subcontractor • 2003
Custom marine carpentry for 140-foot mega yacht. Designed, finished and installed tables, benches seats, captains rail, doors, hatches and walk-in sauna. Also built fiberglass mould/tooling and custom designed, finished and installed Corian countertops throughout all three levels of yacht. Established on-site shop used exclusively for completion of work on this new vessel.
SPECIAL PRODUCTIONS, Reproduction of Historic vessels
Master Carpenter - Lead Shipwright • 1998 to 2000
Built 14 specialty vessels for Universal and Disney theme parks. Constructed historically accurate reproductions from lofting to rigging and engine installation. Served as expert instructor in marine carpentry and special methods to crew of 40, fielding questions and giving instruction in all facets of building and marine carpentry.
Coordinated installation of finished vessels on-site at Disney Sea in Tokyo, Japan and Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Worked with Disney Imagineering Team directing final installation and rigging. Served as liason between Special Productions and Disney Tokyo / Universal, Florida.
Methods: Traditional and current boat building methods, including epoxy laminations, mold making, scribing, lofting and spar building. Joinery: custom joinery using pattern making, jigs, and templates. Laminates: epoxies, fiberglass, polyurethanes and others. Devised methods to create aged and graining effects, using modern materials for durability.
Master Carpenter - Shipwright • 1988 to 1994
Worked with crew of 12, rebuilding the Mark Twain paddle-wheel riverboat (working replica of actual stern wheel steam boat) and tall ship Columbia at Disneyland, CA. This six phase project included the rebuilding of all major structural members, planking, decking and spars. Also built various nautically themed props for Disneyland.
GENERAL EXHIBITS AND DISPLAYS
Master Journeyman Exhibit Builder • 1997 to 1998
Built and installed exhibits for Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific and California Museum of Science and Industry. This included display areas, signage, ceiling treatments and underwater viewing area finish work.
GEORGE P. JOHNSON COMPANY
Master Journeyman Exhibit Builder - On Site Supervisor • 1994 to 1997
Built exhibits for trade shows, auto shows and museums from blueprint to finished exhibit. Built architectural models from blueprint for client presentations. Lead man in building of Mazda $6 million setup for 1996-’97 auto shows. Also participated in building exhibits for Toyota, Honda, Cadillac, Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti.
On-Site Supervisor for set-up and take down of Mazda and other exhibits. Supervised large crews who reported directly to me during setup and take-down of exhibits. Worked within timelines and budgets, completed paperwork, and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. during show season.
INNOVATOR BOATS
Production Engineer • 1990 to 1991
Constructed, researched, and built working prototype Innovator 30’ sportfishing boat. Developed and engineered the original production molds (including wooden plugs and fiberglass molds) from blueprints, working closely with naval architect and designer.
DENCHO MARINE
Carpenter - Boatbuilder • 1982 to 1985
All facets of boat building from mold-making and lofting to interior finish work, electrical, plumbing and mechanical. All boats were custom performance sailboats 30’ to 75’ in length.
